Re: Notice of Withdrawal for Home Education

Dear Principal or Attendance Officer,

I am writing to inform you that I am withdrawing my child(ren) listed below from enrollment at your school:

We will be establishing a home education program in accordance with Texas law. As recognized by the Texas Supreme Court in Leeper v. Arlington ISD (1994), home schools are considered private schools under Texas Education Code Section 25.086.

Under Texas Education Code Section 25.086(a)(1), a child is exempt from compulsory attendance if the child attends a private or parochial school that includes in its course a study of good citizenship. The Texas Supreme Court ruled in Leeper v. Arlington ISD (1994) that home schools are private schools for purposes of the compulsory attendance law.

This notice is provided in accordance with Texas Education Code Section 25.086.

Under Texas law, there is no requirement to notify the school district or state of our intent to homeschool. This letter is provided as a courtesy to ensure a smooth withdrawal from your school. Our home education program will include instruction in reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship as required by law. Please process this withdrawal and forward any relevant student records.
