What Your Letter Will Include
Based on NC General Statutes 115C-564 through 115C-565, your letter will include:
- Parent/guardian name and contact information
- Child's name, date of birth, and grade level
- Statement of intent to homeschool
- Reference to NC General Statutes 115C-564 through 115C-565
- Home School Name(North Carolina requires you to provide a name for your home school when filing with the DNPE.)
- Chief Administrator(The person responsible for the operation of the home school. Must hold at minimum a high school diploma or GED.)
- Administrator Qualification(North Carolina requires the chief administrator of a home school to hold at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.)
Relevant Legal Language
Under NC General Statute 115C-564, each home school shall be operated by the owner on a regular schedule, excluding reasonable holidays and vacations, during at least nine calendar months of the year. The owner shall hold at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. Under 115C-565, the owner shall notify the Division of Non-Public Education upon opening the home school.
