About Homeschool Hive

We're a homeschool family too. This platform exists because we got tired of watching good communities burn out on coordination.

I'm Carl VanderLaan. My wife, Holly, and I homeschool our two kids, Duke and Amelia. We love the freedom and the community that comes with homeschooling, but we also know the reality behind the scenes.

Most groups run on a mix of spreadsheets, group chats, and a few leaders who carry everything in their head. Plans change, messages get buried, RSVPs get messy, and it's way too easy for families to miss out.

Why I built Homeschool Hive

Homeschool groups don't need more noise. They need one clear place where families can discover what's happening, RSVP without confusion, pay when needed, get reminders and updates, and know what to do and where to be.

And group leaders need a system that reduces work instead of adding to it.

Why I'm the one building it

I'm a software builder by trade and a systems guy by nature. I've spent decades designing platforms that turn chaotic, manual processes into simple workflows people actually use.

I care about building this the right way from the start, because homeschool families and leaders deserve tools that feel stable and trustworthy.

What we believe

Holly and I care deeply about faith, family, and building real community. Homeschool Hive is not just a software project to me. It's something I'm building for families like ours, so you can spend less time coordinating and more time connecting.
